Small Plane Lands Safely

Pilot Joey Williams

Pilot Joey Williams

Julian, NC (AP) - A small 1966 Cessna 150F single engine plane landed safely today at Causey Airport in Julian, North Carolina.

The pilot Joey Williams radioed into the tower at approximately 3:54 pm that he was going to try to land and although 7 minutes off his original flight plan, he reported no problems at that time.

At 4:15 pm, the 42 year old pilot of 21 years turned his plane into the landing vector and proceeded to land the airplane. When asked what was going through his mind at the time, he replied "I called the tower and then I landed."

No one was waiting for him at the airport but when family was finally contacted, they expressed great relief in his safety. Wife Leona Williams noted "He's always been such a good pilot."

"Yeah, I flew jets and stuff in the Navy when I was young so I felt pretty solid coming in with my little baby here," said Williams patting his plane. "I mean, she's red, white and blue ain't she?"
