LaCroix, WI (AP) - A popular spherical candy has been blamed for a roller skating accident involving a LaCroix, Wisconsin pre-teen Friday night.
Brittany Maskowski, 12, was skating near the number two lounge area at The Go Round, which features a smoking area for adults, when she hit a Tropical Fruit Skittle and was sent sprawling. The candy acted as a brake and stopped Maskowski?s left foot. The youngster apparently bit her lower lip when her chin hit the hardwood floor and began crying immediately.
?We?ve had regular spills since I?ve been here,? stated Jim Kelso, second shift assistant manager, ?but this was unusual in that a piece of candy was the apparent culprit.? Eva Snell, the snack bar attendant who sold several bags of Skittles prior to the incident, could not recall exactly who made the purchases. Sales that evening of all snack items was considered brisk, Kelso added.
Maskowski is reported to be resting comfortably at home with her parents, Ed and Barbara. No stitches were necessary and swelling has been kept to a minimum by regular application of ice packs.
No ban on Skittles or Milk Duds at The Go Round is being considered at this time, owner/operator Daniel McQuiggins stated, but an increased effort will be made to check floor conditions during free skates.
